Education in the Persian Gulf
The crucial drive to reassess the valuable resource of education originated in the United Arab Emirates. The foundation of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation at the 2007 World Economic Forum held at the Dead Sea in Jordan is recognised as the start of the education revolution in the Middle East. The foundation capital amounted to US$ 10 billion.
The largest Emirate university is the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al-Ain. The UAEU aims to join the list of the top 100 universities in the world in the next five years and to develop to become the leading research institute in the Arab world.
The first university project of the German Oriental Society for Higher Education is therefore an academic cooperation agreement with UAEU.
The second university project is based on the source of the region’s prosperity, petroleum and gas research in the Arab countries and Gulf States.
